[3,259 of 4,954] Another level 50 - Highmountain

1/30/24: I unlocked Old Stratholme!Unlocking the secret was actually a lot of fun - it FELT like something secret and hidden. I got vibes like the old Onyxia attunement quests which had a feeling of achivement behind them once complete - a new thing that you could do that others could not.

I'm going to unlock Naxx soon enough once my wife is ready. Actually, this is part of why it was fun - my wife and I played together, first farming the toy solo until one of us got it, then doing the work to unlock the old version of the dungeon. MMOs are supposed to be played as a group - who knew? :)

I also picked up a bunch of BFA Mythic raid achievements a couple of days ago. Not a lot to say here, other than some of them were tough to do with 2-3 total players. We hit some walls where some simply weren't possible with two people so I'll need to come back and do those later.

Right now I'm trying to decide between getting all the old dungeon achievements that I'm missing, just to finish them all off and working on something like professions for all my alts, none of which have unlocked Dragonflight yet.

[Honor Our Ancestors]! This one was easy enough except some of the wowhead items were wrong and I had to get new ones from the AH. The other big caveat is that you need a Fire-Blessed Greatsword which is pretty rare. I was lucky to get one for 2000g but apparently it sells for up to 100k. There were only two on the AH when I looked and the other was 30k.

2/3/24: [Toe Tension]! This is one of a few climbing achievements that I'm working on. The others take more time or need a second person to complete.

2/4/24: I've been working on getting a Highmountain Tauren to level 50. I found an excellent speedrun guide that told me to do all the quests in Silverpine Forest. The problem is that halfway through it's no longer possible to complete one of the quests: https://www.wowhead.com/quest=27401/what-tomorrow-brings The issue is that the new Gilneas update added walls around the telescope and there is no way to get in without flying. Very frustrating.

2/17/23: I picked up a Love Is In the Air achievement as well as finally hitting 50 on my Highmountain Monk. It was slow going - 13 hours to level up. I'm going to try guardian druid next for the fast queues in tank spec but first I need to learn how to tank :)

Remember to Share (300 Toys)!

This one has taken a while. I finally picked up 300 toys (and thus the mount for the achievement) after starting to seriously work on my Archaeology achievements for the first time. I've been doing the fortnightly Legion archaeology quests for a while (and thus had 800 skill) but I completely ignored this profession in earlier expansions as it seemed seriously boring. With some knowledge and a good addon, it's much better however. Some tips if you're just starting to work on archaeology: 1. Download the "Archy" addon. This addon does several things: first, it shows you the location and completion status of all digsites in the current continent. Second, it automatically sets the closes one as a waypoint for TomTom. Third, it indicates when it's possible to solve an artifact with and without a keystone, so you don't have to constantly check your archaeology screen. On top of that, the distance indicator shows when you are in the correct range from your ...

Beta update - best achievement EVER!

It probably won't make it to live. But check out this feat of strength from the beta:

A Song of Wind and Water

I've been working on Oracles and Ogri'la rep every day and have about four days to go. One thing I've noticed about these older daily quests is that there is little provision for high-level players that one-shot everything. Two quests in particular stand out as being annoying until you learn the high-level trick. The first is Banish More Demons in Blade's Edge. This involves placing a portal on the ground then killing demons within a few feet of the portal. The portal has a one-minute cooldown and you need fifteen demons. It was a slow exercise in frustration because kiting further-away demons was difficult sue to all my abilities one-shotting them before they got near. In the end, I learned to use the Shaman's "Purge" ability to aggro mobs without killing them and pull them close to the portal. The second, and more annoying, quest that isn't scaled for high-level players is the Ogri-la's Song of Wind and Water .  This involves weakening ...
