Back after a lot of time off

I kind of gave up on WoW for a while (again), mostly because of a combination of boredom and work. I think the legendary cloak thing just irritated me because of the poor design: the only real way to get past around rank six it to go with a group, but the only people who want a rank six cloak person are those who are around the same level. Many weeks into an expansion, that's effectively nobody (I keep trying in LFG) and so I just gave up.

I restarted my efforts around eight or nine days ago after deciding to finally get enough gear, essences, azerite traits, corruption etc. to be able to consistently do mythic plus dungeons. I don't have the uninterrupted time to raid right now but M+ is doable, and the whole game feels so much more fun when you have good gear.

Anyway, I paid gold for two M15 runs and two 5-mask runs to get quickly back up to speed and my cloak is at rank 10 now and I've mostly figured out all the essences and things that I need to be semi-competent. My gear went from about 440 to 456 in a week (without any raiding) and I'll try to get a normal or heroic run in next week to round things out.

I've picked up a lot of random achievements - for example, I did three mythic island expeditions (extremely easy now) plus a variety of mythic dungeons (some of which I'd yet to complete in heroic). The 5-mask runs of both Orgrimmar and Stormwind both led to an absolute ton of achievements too.

Lots of small housecleaning tasks as well, like finally emptying out my bags and bank and auctioning as much stuff as I could. I've probably make 300,000g this week from junk in my bank - the new auction house is SO much better than the old one in terms of being able to list things easily and quickly. I remember literal hours spent in TSM daily cancelling and relisting stuff.

Anyway, when I get my next chest on Tuesday, I'll take stock and see how far I've come, and whether or not I'm able to do M+ at a decent level or not.

Remember to Share (300 Toys)!

This one has taken a while. I finally picked up 300 toys (and thus the mount for the achievement) after starting to seriously work on my Archaeology achievements for the first time. I've been doing the fortnightly Legion archaeology quests for a while (and thus had 800 skill) but I completely ignored this profession in earlier expansions as it seemed seriously boring. With some knowledge and a good addon, it's much better however. Some tips if you're just starting to work on archaeology: 1. Download the "Archy" addon. This addon does several things: first, it shows you the location and completion status of all digsites in the current continent. Second, it automatically sets the closes one as a waypoint for TomTom. Third, it indicates when it's possible to solve an artifact with and without a keystone, so you don't have to constantly check your archaeology screen. On top of that, the distance indicator shows when you are in the correct range from your ...

Beta update - best achievement EVER!

It probably won't make it to live. But check out this feat of strength from the beta:

A Song of Wind and Water

I've been working on Oracles and Ogri'la rep every day and have about four days to go. One thing I've noticed about these older daily quests is that there is little provision for high-level players that one-shot everything. Two quests in particular stand out as being annoying until you learn the high-level trick. The first is Banish More Demons in Blade's Edge. This involves placing a portal on the ground then killing demons within a few feet of the portal. The portal has a one-minute cooldown and you need fifteen demons. It was a slow exercise in frustration because kiting further-away demons was difficult sue to all my abilities one-shotting them before they got near. In the end, I learned to use the Shaman's "Purge" ability to aggro mobs without killing them and pull them close to the portal. The second, and more annoying, quest that isn't scaled for high-level players is the Ogri-la's Song of Wind and Water .  This involves weakening ...
