Trying to get 400 Mounts

With the advent of flying, I've managed to pick up a lot of the smaller exploration achievements. My personal favorite was the "sand surfing" one where I got to surf down sand dunes. Cool little minigame.

As for what is next - I sometimes feel overwhelmed by everything still do do and so spend twenty minutes just dawdling instead of doing something more productive. As a result, I asked for suggestions in the achievements discord channel on what to work on next.

The consensus was "400 Mounts". This is an interesting one because of all of the sub-tasks that it contains. To do it efficiently, I really need to also work on all of the achievements that reward a mount for completion, as well as things like exalted reputations that unlock mounts for purchase.

Here is a breakdown of the mounts I have so far (from https://simplearmory.com/#/us/area%2052/deathspiral/collectable/mounts)

Lots missing, right?

One thing to note is that there are MAJOR achievements that reward one of the missing mounts. The worst is likely "Honor level 500" which is something like a two-year grind if it's done properly (it's likely a lot faster if you "cheat" and have two 40-man raids take turns killing each other).

I've decided to focus on "100 Reputations" as my next big task. I'm going to keep working slowly on the Legion pet achievements as well - I can usually do 1-2 of those a day, but I have a feeling that "100 Exalted Reputations" will keep me busy for a while.

Today I went back to Ogri-la for the first time in a long time and did the four dailies there for (350+350+350+500=) 1550 rep per day. At this rate it will take about nine days to hit exalted. One useful tool has been the Gnome Engineering toy Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station which takes me very close to the quest point. Minimizing travel time is essential to a speedy grind.

I'm going to run a bunch of the rep-grinding raids like Molten Core on Sunday so as to take advantage of the Darkmoon Faire 10% rep buff. If I'm lucky the 15th anniversary coming soon will supply another 15% rep buff too. I'll use my guild banner on cooldown to help as well. I also have a bunch of items in my bank to use for AQ40 rep and I'm sure some of the others can be done quickly as well.

Here is my rep so far:

I just hit Exalted with Mechagon last night. Nazjatar is something I plan on only grinding when it has an emissary quest as the rewards from the dailies are so limited.

For other raids that give rep, I need to make sure I complete all of their other achievement at the same time that I'm rep grinding - no sense in getting exalted then having to go back in for some of the other achievements for Glory of Whatever.

Focusing on rep grinds is actually pretty fun again - the goals are clear and I'm generally not time-gated in the same was as I am with the Legion pet achievements where it's all about having the right quest up for a given day.

Remember to Share (300 Toys)!

This one has taken a while. I finally picked up 300 toys (and thus the mount for the achievement) after starting to seriously work on my Archaeology achievements for the first time. I've been doing the fortnightly Legion archaeology quests for a while (and thus had 800 skill) but I completely ignored this profession in earlier expansions as it seemed seriously boring. With some knowledge and a good addon, it's much better however. Some tips if you're just starting to work on archaeology: 1. Download the "Archy" addon. This addon does several things: first, it shows you the location and completion status of all digsites in the current continent. Second, it automatically sets the closes one as a waypoint for TomTom. Third, it indicates when it's possible to solve an artifact with and without a keystone, so you don't have to constantly check your archaeology screen. On top of that, the distance indicator shows when you are in the correct range from your ...

Beta update - best achievement EVER!

It probably won't make it to live. But check out this feat of strength from the beta:

A Song of Wind and Water

I've been working on Oracles and Ogri'la rep every day and have about four days to go. One thing I've noticed about these older daily quests is that there is little provision for high-level players that one-shot everything. Two quests in particular stand out as being annoying until you learn the high-level trick. The first is Banish More Demons in Blade's Edge. This involves placing a portal on the ground then killing demons within a few feet of the portal. The portal has a one-minute cooldown and you need fifteen demons. It was a slow exercise in frustration because kiting further-away demons was difficult sue to all my abilities one-shotting them before they got near. In the end, I learned to use the Shaman's "Purge" ability to aggro mobs without killing them and pull them close to the portal. The second, and more annoying, quest that isn't scaled for high-level players is the Ogri-la's Song of Wind and Water .  This involves weakening ...
